No award for gay student

Catholic bishop won’t let foundation present scholarship to gay Iowa student at award ceremony

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Overruling school officials, a Catholic bishop in Iowa said Monday he would not let a group that promotes equal rights for gays and lesbians present a college scholarship to an openly gay student during an upcoming award ceremony.

Bishop Martin Amos in Davenport said the Eychaner Foundation would not be allowed to present the Matthew Shepard Scholarship to Keaton Fuller during the May 20 ceremony at Prince of Peace Catholic School in Clinton, saying the group’s support for gay rights conflicts with church doctrine.

Fuller is believed to be the first gay student at a Catholic high school to attend multiple school dances with a partner of the same sex, said foundation executive director Michael Bowser.

School Board President Edward O’Neill said he was disappointed by the bishop’s decision. He said Fuller was a talented student who was accepted by his peers after coming out years ago.

He said Fuller had taken his boyfriend to prom over the weekend and other school dances without controversy.

Comments from FR:
Hurray to the bishop for standing up to the perverts.I am so tired of the news media cheerleading for homosexual perversion on one hand while they condemn the Catholic church for pedophile priests on the other.

The board and adult teachers and staff used this boy, encouraged and entertained his gay misbehaviors at school events on campus, lauded his his gay advocacy in every breath, and generally set him and his parents up for the purpose of this scenic showdown with the Bishop at scholarship time to make it all official. This, “official”, business was the big pay off, or suppose to be. Perhaps the Fuller family was complicit all along.
But, surely the Bishop had already dropped the hammer on these anti-Catholic habits goings-on in his diocese. The faculty seems to me only mildly surprised, in my opinion. This isn’t over. It’s eeriely suspect. Praying for this Bishop. It is he who is being set up.

Took me the longest time to realize that what happened after Vatican II was a rebellion by the lower clergy and religious, which the bishops did not know how to handle. The reform of the mass was done so quickly, and to my mind, unnecessarily that it alienated a lot of older Catholics. They have nowhere else to go, thought the young rebels. Wrong. They stayed home or they went to the evangelicals
