August 23, we remember Saint Éoghan of Ardstraw, an early Irish bishop, monastic founder and missionary associated especially with County Tyrone in Ireland. Known in English as Saint Eugene, Éoghan lived around the 6th century, during the remarkable expansion of Christianity throughout Ireland. Historical information about his life is limited, and many details come from later traditions.
