Today the leftists would hate him as much as his nephew. The only Catholics I personally know of who love Biden are - sadly - all elderly priests!
JFK said that because of the the whining Protestants. He should have given a quick course of the role of the Pope and then challenge them that if they are truly Christian as they claim to be then they would welcome him as President because he will govern as a Catholic.
