Francis has named Auxiliary Bishop Gerard Battersby of Detroit as the new Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin.
He succeeds outgoing Bishop William Callahan, whose resignation was accepted at the age of 73, reportedly for health reasons. La Crosse is the home diocese of Cardinal Raymond Burke which he led as diocesan bishop from 1994-2003.
Monsignor Callahan suspended Rev. Altman, who became famous for opposing pro-abortion advocate Joseph Biden and now says Francis is an anti-pope.
He is also the ordinary of Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, aka 'Mgr Grindr', a former secretary general of the US bishops' conference who was removed for visiting gay bars, but never challenged the regime and therefore is now back working in the diocese.
Monsignor Battersby became known in 2020 for removing from the diocese "Dignitas" and "Fortunate Families Detroit", two groups involved in homosexual propaganda. He wrote they were no longer welcome in the archdiocese because they contradict Church teaching.
