I think the question here has to be 'when is tax moral, and when does it become institutionalised theft'. Certainly in the UK, in some cases, it has tipped over into institutionalised theft, in order to support things like uncontrolled immigration (and keeping illegal immigrants in high-end hotels), which was not in any government manifesto (quite the opposite) and which the majority of tax-payers never agreed to and are strongly opposed to. There was talk yesterday in the news of the Labour Party reintroducing National Insurance (as well as tax) to retired pensioners - many of whom already struggle financially - so that the immigration bill can be footed, and young Socialist snowflakes who are having mental breakdowns over the thought of having to do a lifetime's work from Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm, could be alleviated. It's just robbing pensioners - who have worked all their lives and paid National Insurance and taxes all their lives (and still continue to pay tax on pensions and interest on savings). Very few retired pensioners are in a position to earn any more money, so they should be the last to have more punitive taxes imposed on them. Youngsters have their whole working lives ahead of them. A fair proportion - admittedly not all - will also inherit from their parents. If the government start to punish pensioners who have worked all their lives and saved what they could, then I would ignore what this cleric says. There has got to be a distinction between lawful tax and institutionalised theft.
