Make good Confessions frequently, and receive Holy Communion often, in the state of grace only. Lead a prayerful and examined life, asking God constantly for what you need to progress in holiness. We must trust with confidence that the Sacraments, each authored by Christ Himself, provide the means for us to go to Heaven. Jansenism is very easy to fall into, especially in these wicked times.
A very holy priest and I heard it elsewhere said that the only difference between purgatory and hell was that in Purgatory you will know and have the happiness ..that one day you will get out..and get to Heaven.. This holy priest said with grave voice…”Never aim for Purgatory! “ I came from an area where many old people (so wise and holy and knew this) used to say and meant it ..that they wanted to suffer their Purgatory here before death. As a nurse, I offered a man suffering from end stage cancer ..pain medication .. only for him to refuse with these words… No thank you … I am suffering my Purgatory now.

We have been told that the fires of Purgatory are like that in Hell.
Only difference is that all the souls in Purgatory are sure of getting to Heaven one day.

I'm sure, few make it to Heaven at first. But hopefully after a period in Purgatory, which I read is not painful but is a period of penance, we get the chance to enter Heaven. I can think of people who I am sure are in Heaven.
