Nuncio Gänswein Praises Leo XIV and Trump - Attacks Putin
Monsignor Gänswein said Pope Leo XIV has brought "a new sense of relief" to the Church.
"Peace is the key word," he believes. "From his very first address, Pope Leo placed the peace of the Risen Christ at the center of his message."
According to the nuncio, the Pope's emphasis on peace has [allegedly] transformed the atmosphere. "It has turned headwinds into tailwinds. Whether that wind will change again remains impossible to predict."
Bond with Pope Benedict XVI
Reflecting on his years alongside Benedict XVI, Archbishop Gänswein said their relationship developed from a professional one into a close personal friendship.
"We not only worked together but also lived under one roof and spent every day together," he recalled. "During the ten years after his resignation, our relationship became even stronger."
Gänswein said Benedict XVI shaped him more profoundly than anyone else.
Trump "Courteous" - Putin "Like a Refrigerator"
As Benedict XVI's private secretary and later Prefect of the Papal Household under Pope Francis, Monsignor Gänswein met Donald Trump once and Vladimir Putin twice.
He described Trump as "a very courteous and also very humorous person."
His impression of Putin was starkly different, "With Putin, I had the impression that I was looking into the eyes of a refrigerator - ice-cold eyes that genuinely frightened me."
