Useful idiots from NCR compare Cardinal Sapieha to heir of Bandera
In the month of anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Roman-Catholic churches of Volhynia (July 1943), NCR likens the leader of "Banderam favens" Ukrainian Church Shevchuk to Cardinal Sapieha: "The heroic witness of Cardinal Adam Sapieha does not belong only to the past; it has an echo today in one of the bravest bishops of the 21st century, Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Indeed, given the changing political geography of Sapieha’s life, it could be argued that Shevchuk is one of his heirs." (cf.: 75 Years After His Death, Cardinal Sapieha’s …)Sapieha as the Archbishop of Cracow loudly denounced abominable crimes of Ukrainian banderism - including many murders of Catholic priests, also in churches and parish buildings, and sometimes during the Holy Mass.
On March 27, 1944 after dramatic reports from the Archdiocese of Lwow and letters from Roman-Catholic Archbishop Boleslaus Twardowski Sapieha was compelled to write to Hans Frank: "Your Excellency must have been informed of the shameful acts of violence committed by Ukrainians against the defenseless Polish population in the eastern territories of the General Government. At the urgent request of the Archbishop of Lwow, I take the liberty of giving Your Excellency a brief overview of the mass murders committed in recent months against the Polish population and their priests. In the Archdiocese of Lwow alone, the following Roman Catholic priests have been cruelly murdered so far: Biliński in Kotów, Bosak in Mariampol, Duszenko in Hallerczyn, Ferens in Markowa, Grzesiowski in Pistyń, Kaczorowski in Wołków, Kraśnicki in Jazłowiec, Kucab in Bednarówka, Kuszyński in Toporów, Kwiatkowski in Świrz, Majka in Tłuste, Pikota in Pieniaki, Procyk in Baworów, Szklarczyk in Samki, Stroński in Skoromochy, Szkodziński in Tłuste, Wierzbowski in Byble, Wiszniowski in Sokołówka Hetmańska, Żygiel in Bieniawa, Father Szafraniec and Father Borsuk – Bernardines in Fraga, Father Suszczyński and Father Czosnek – Carmelites, and Fiałkowski – parish priest in Poczajów. Murders of Roman Catholic priests have already begun in the Przemyśl diocese; recently, the parish priest in Jaworów was murdered. Due to these incidents, many Roman Catholic priests have had to leave their parishes; at the moment, the following parishes are without priests: [here follows a list of the parishes] Nevertheless, the Roman Catholic civilian population of the Archdiocese of Lwow is also exposed to terrible Atrocities – atrocities reaching the proportions of those committed in Volhynia. In the following towns of the Archdiocese of Lwow, mass murders were committed [Archbishop Sapieha again lists here the sites of massacres]. I believe that comment on these laconic lists is unnecessary. The Polish population is powerless against these transgressions by well-armed Ukrainian gangs, especially where the police are Ukrainians. In the face of this situation, I appeal to Your Excellency, in the name of humanity and justice, to take steps to end these inhumane mass murders and to restore normal relations in these areas..."
Then Archbishop Sapieha, addressing the dramatic situation of the murdered Polish population by the Ukrainians (led or incited in some cases also by so-called "Greek-Catholic" popes), decided to take an unprecedented step: he met with German Nazi-socialist Governor-General Hans Frank, he opposed throughout years of German occupation of Cracow on the morning of April 5, 1944. A report from this conference is published in Księga Sapieżyńska, volume II, pp. 304-309. It appears from its content that the topic was discussed, but the report does not provide further details: "... Governor-General... begins the discussion with the content of the last two letters from the Prince-Archbishop, concerning the seizure of monasteries and St. Stephen's Church and the murder of Polish priests in Galicia."
At the same time, even this year Shevchuk defended Banderite military formation OUN-UPA that was the main driving force of the genocide of Polish Catholics in Archdiocese of Lwow (today: Lviv) during World War II, including attacks on churches and monasteries, calling heirloom of OUN-UPA "the heroic history of the Ukrainian national liberation fight against Soviet domination". It is worth to remember that this "heroic history" includes in particular mass massacres of Poles (including, for example, one in Dominican monastery and Blessed Virgin shrine of Podkamien in March 1944) just few days before the Soviet front came and just after Germans had withdrawn.
Archbishop of Lwow Twardowski in the aforementioned correspondence with Archbishop Sapieha in the following way reported on the massacre in Podkamien shrine (letter dated March 21, 1944):
"The massacre in Podkamien, a town famed for its miraculous image of the Virgin Mary in the Dominican Church, was particularly bloody. Over 200 people were murdered there. The attached copy of the report, written with Father Mikołaj Wysocki, an eyewitness to these events, provides a shocking, though incomplete, picture of the cruel events that unfolded in the Dominican monastery, the town of Podkamien, and Palikrowy, a village incorporated into that parish. According to Father Wysocki, 100 people were killed in the monastery alone, including displaced persons from Volhynia and Poles from surrounding villages. Therefore, the number of victims, including those murdered in Podkamień, Palikrowy, Maliniska, and Czernica, totals 536. The general situation in our area is currently such that unless the German authorities take steps in the near future to ensure the safety of the Polish population, the majority of this population, especially those living in villages and small towns, will inevitably perish at the hands of murderers, along with their priests."
At the same time the church led by Shevchuk refuses to face demons of the past not only of Ukraine but also of his church, boldly and aptly denounced by Blessed Ukrainian Bishop Hryhoriy Khomyshyn (a martyr from hands of the Soviets but at the same time one of enemies of OUN-UPA). It was Khomyshyn who was a really brotherly spirit of Archbishop Sapieha. Not Shevchuk compromised with banderism.
