This is a very truncated and simplified presentation of the subject, one of supreme importance for understanding contemporary culture. For a far more informative discussion see in internet "The History of Political Correctness" (22.27 minutes) following Prof. Lind's analysis. I can testify to the validity of Lind's analysis as I lived through the whole time span, namely as an undergrad student in the 1960s through obtaining Ph.D, in 1967 on to being a prof. in the 1980s. Marcuse, Fromm et al. are the true proponents of a radical recasting of Freudianism into a system whereby "libido" in all its dimensions substitutes for the essence of the human condition. Cultural structures must be changed so as to liberate humankind from "repression" of basic libidal instincts. That is the essence of the cultural revolution, Indeed, I view today's culture often as a sort of pansexualism.

As a professor I experienced the conquest of the universities in the 1980s. Indeed, the new culture contributed to my demise as a prof. and early retirement. Alas, a comment allows not adquate discussion.

As to Marx the presentation is traditional and verbally on the level of marxist talk. However, marxism itself is derived from a "mytho-poetic" and Promethean urge, evident in the young Marx's poems, in his early pre-communist writing, the writing of transition and the so-called mature works. I have published two books on Marx's thought from youthful poet to adult theorist. They can be found in Amazon under my name. My point is that, in my judgment, Marx translated a salvational myth (>>become liberation from instinct repression in cultural marxism) into socio-economic terms. A brilliant art of "scientific" story telling.
