His Doctor: Francis Suffers from No Particular Illness, Has Head Of A 60-Year-Old
"I am not aware of any worrying situations," Francis' doctor Sergio Alfieri told Corriere.it (25 March). Alfieri has operated on Francis' abdomen twice in the last three years (in July 2021 and June 2023).
Alfieri: "The Holy Father is doing well, according to his age and his episodic difficulty in breathing during colder periods, also due to previous lung operations he underwent many years ago. I don't see him every day, but I can assure you that he has no particular illness. He has regular check-ups."
Regarding Francis' tiredness, he said: "He is a man with responsibilities as head of state of the Vatican, who has to make decisions." Alfieri added that "he has the head [or malice] of a 60-year-old" but "the aches and pains of an 87-year-old".
After Francis took the unusual step of skipping his Palm Sunday homily, he read the entire Wednesday general audience text, appearing alert and animated.
