Profile
Third-century imperial Roman soldier and Christian. Military tribune under the command of the tribune Tiberius. In Rome, Italy Alexander was ordered to make a sacrifice to the pagan god Jupiter; he refused. Being of high rank, he was taken before Emperor Maximian Herculeus; there he proclaimed his faith. Tortured and sentenced to hard labour at a series of prisons before being executed. Martyr.
- beheaded in 289 in Drizipara, Thrace (modern Büyük Karistiran, Turkey)
- body thrown into the nearby river Ergina, but was pulled out by four dogs, and locals, led by his mother Pimenia, gave Alexander a Christian burial
