Fauré composed his Requiem in D minor op. 48, between 1887 and 90, and is the best known of his works. The piece premiered in 1888 in La Madeleine, Paris.

He revised it in the 1890s, finishing it in 1900.

It is written for orchestra, organ, mixed chorus and two soloists, soprano and baritone, and performed in Latin. Most famous is the soprano aria
Pie Jesu.

It consists of:

- Sanctus サンクトゥス(聖三颂)
- Pie Jesu ピエ・イェズ

- Libera Me リベラ・メ (응송)
- In Paradisum イン・パラディスム (따름 노래)
