Money: The ultraliberal monks of the world famous Benedictine abbey of Melk, Austria, invited the infamous Eugen Drewermann to preach the yearly retreat for the monks from June 29th to Juli 2nd. Ashamed of Christ: The French philosopher Rémi Brague has raised the question whether even bishops and Cardinals are ashamed of Christ. In front of the German Catholic paper “Tagespost” he admitted that he finds this temptation also within himself. In 2012 Brague was awarded the Ratzinger Prize for Theology.

French Priests: The blog „Centurio“ has calculated that in less than 25 years there will be in France more priests of the Old than for the New Rite. At the moment there are in France 300 mostly young priests of the Old Rite as opposed to 14.000 priests of the New Rite. However, the average age of the latter is 75.

Good Money: 12 years ago Catholic priest Father Jamie MacLeod bought from an antiques shop in Cheshire, northern England some painting for £400 – 680 Dollars. In December, Father took the painting onto "Antiques Roadshow" - a BBC television programme on which antique hunters have their purchases valued by experts. The painting turned out to be a lost Van Dyck sketch for the 1635 work "The Magistrates Of Brussels". It was expected to fetch £500,000 at a Tuesday night auction. The swiftly executed head study was consistent with three other known sketches for "The "Magistrates of Brussels", which hung in Brussels Town Hall until it was destroyed during the French bombardment of the city in 1695.

That is a great story about the recovery of a genuine Van Dyck painting. However, it should be noted that Jamie MacLeod is a member of the "Old Catholics", a schismatic group, dating from the nineteenth century, which is not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
