Summit on Crimes Against Christians
OSCE summit
The inauguration of the meeting organized by the OSCE will be taking place in Rome this evening, attended by the "foreign minister" of the Holy See
The summit has been made possible thanks to the Italy's contribution: it will focus on crimes against Christians, which take place mainly in Africa and Asia. The nations of the OSCE (USA, Canada, and Europe) may have a role to play in coming up with a coordinated response to these regions.
Cases that will be mentioned, include that of Sister Maria Laura Mainetti, who was killed in 2000 in Chiavenna by three girls who were not part of any sect, but were induced by websites to hate the Church.
Concrete proposals should emerge from the Rome Summit, such as that of creating an international database on crimes against Christians that fosters both knowledge of the phenomenon and collaboration among police forces. But there is also the idea of launching information campaigns.
